DAC Ice Race Weekend Is A Go
! Tom Prentice has
done his magic and provided a reconfigured track
for this weekend by moving the banks so that we
are running on fresh ice. Also it's our awards
night Saturday - don't forget to bring any
annual trophys/awards and make sure they
get to Don Horne well before Saturday night so
he can get them ready for their new recipients.
The banquet will be held at the same place as
last year - The
Grill On The Gull (705-286-3886), 115
Bobcaygeon Road (also known as Main Street),
Minden at 7PM - all members welcome.

Third Thursday at The Musket Report …
Here are some things that were
discussed at the last get-together at Third Thursday at The Musket,
it was a round table...
Discussed our ice race weekend: should race still be
held if it is raining?
do we really want grilled gull again?
Martin had his tie-rod replaced
Martin had the tie-rod on his car replaced

Rick had Martin order schnitzel so he could engage

Introducing a new social gathering…
Starting Thursday the 15th is a new pub night
for DAC members and friends alike called “Third
Thursdays at the Musket”. It is simply a
chance for us to have a social gathering in
addition to our regular monthly meetings at
The Three Monkeys in Scarborough. It is also an
opportunity to have nice German food and drink
occasionally. There is no set time or agenda,
just show up and enjoy yourself.

There was a very good turnout for the annual awards
dinner held this time at the Grill On The Gull in Minden (to view the
photo album - click the photo at right). Sean served up an amazing BBQ'd
chicken and ribs dinner with strawberry cheese cake dessert for a crowd
who had worked up a really powerful appetite after having spent the day
outside in very cold and very windy conditions. Overall I would say that
this year's DAC ice race event went very smoothly with the exception of
probably the worst incident - a 5 car pileup - that I have ever seen -
with no injuries! In fact all but one of the cars returned to racing!

Tech Weekend -
Minden
MR2 passes
tech
inspection
Just a note of
thanks to DAC members Mr. and Mrs.
Nilson for doing tech in Minden for
the ice race series this past
weekend. Mike has indeed taken over
the tech insp. directors position
for the season. I hauled up my
Toyota MR2 on Sunday having opted
not to drive in the snow storm
Saturday, by the sounds of it from
others who hauled up Saturday, it
was a good call. I arrived around
11:30am after first dropping by the
car wash on hwy 35 at the north end
of town to clean out the road salt
and sand. The weather was a cold
-18C at noon when tech opened but
clear and sunny. The track was being
flooded with the truck driven by
Andy Hughes and the surface looks
beautiful (see photo in right side
bar). Andy has said there are over
140 truckloads of water that have
been laid down so far. We will need
more height to the snow banks before
we can race this coming weekend so it looks like it may
have to be trucked in unless we get
a large snowfall soon. I also went
up to Tom's gravel pit and was able
to easily drag out my tool trailer
from about 5 inches of fairly fluffy
snow and moved it to the track.
There were about 30 cars lined up
along the west end of the
fairgrounds when I left around 2 pm
Sunday.
Fish huts on
Gull Lake
On the way home I
stopped by Gull Lake to take a photo
of the ice fishing huts at Miner's
Bay. It's been some time since I've
seen that many out there at this
time of the year and I can't ever
remember seeing vehicles
accompanying them but I counted
three out on the ice.

Alexander Georg
Bartels
July 18th, 1965 to December 4th, 2010
It is with sadness we announce the passing of
Alex Bartels, beloved husband of Shoba, son of
Ruth and the late Klaus Bartels, loving father
of Jennifer and Alexa, brother of Chris and
Bernd (Germany).
Alex was friendly, kind hearted, had a good
sense of humour and loved discussing politics
and business. He held a BA in history from the
University of Toronto. Alex followed in his
father’s footsteps as a long term member of the
Deutscher Automobil Club (DAC) where he
participated in many events. He was a proud and
loyal employee of Volkswagen Canada for over
twenty-five years.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to
the staff of the Toronto General Hospital for
their sincere dedication to Alex’s well being.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to (xxx
division) of the
Toronto General CVICU (Cardio Vascular Intensive
Care) department. Donations
will also be accepted at the visitation and
service.
Visitation for Alex will be held on Friday,
December 10th at
Accettone Funeral Home Ltd. located at 384
Finley Avenue, Ajax, Ontario, from 2 to 4 and 6
to 9 p.m. The service will be held at the same
location Saturday, December 11th at 11 a.m.

The life of the
late racing driver, Fritz Hochreuter, will
be celebrated on Wed., Dec. 1, at noon at
the Association of Danube Swabians, 1686
Ellesmere Rd. (just east of McCowan).
Everybody who
knew Fritz, or raced against him, or just
watched him in action, is welcome to attend.
This is my
favourite story about Fritz (which I heard
from a number of people) as told by my
friend, retired Toyota executive and
motorsport writer, F. David Stone:
“Fritz
Hochreuter was a long service Volkswagen of
Canada hand. Like many of his friends, he
started with small cars and moved up the
food chain.
“Since
motorsport was not a poor man’s sport,
racers were always looking for a cheaper
way. Fritz worked in the parts area at VW
Canada and, in his Formula Vee days, he
would ‘borrow’ an engine from the training
area late on Friday, install it in his
racing car, go racing for the weekend, clean
it up and have it back in the shop ‘like
new’ before the start of business on Monday.
“Senior
management never caught on.”

Additional DAC Track
Event for Next Year Posssible There's
a good possibility that DAC will host an

Shannonville weekend.
Ice Race Annual
Driver's Meeting Being
held at the same location as last year-
Annandale Golf Club in Ajax, Sunday Oct. 18th at
1PM
24 Hours of LeMons
"Nasty.
Brutish. Not Short Enough. The crowd. The
spectacle. The pall of blue smoke and roasted
clutch discs.
In all motorsport, no event captures the
universal human need to whale on old crapcans
and hoover down greasy barbecue like the
24 hour of Lemons.
Each LeMons race is for cars purchased, fixed
up, and track-prepped for a total of 500 dollars
or less. But before reaching the grid, you'll
have to survive trials like the
Personal-Injury-Lawyer Anti-Slalom, the
Marxist-Valet Parking Challenge, and the Wide
Open Throttle Rodthrowapalooza. Twelve hours
into the race, the car voted People’s Choice is
called in and awarded a cash prize;
simultaneously, the car voted People’s Curse is
called in and summarily destroyed. At the end of
24 hours, a gala awards ceremony plies the
survivors with trophies, plaques, and
four-figure purses in canvas bags full of
nickels. What's not to like?" ....
It was suggested that DAC would be interested in
entering a car in the
24 hour of Lemons event at the
Nelson Ledges track in Garrettsville Ohio
this year at the June meeting but it was too
late to make the entry deadline for the October
3rd-4th event. The possibility of a DAC entry
for next year was heartily embraced and we are
planning on attending this, the only 24 hour
event on the schedule, to spectate. Anyone
interested in joining us for the road trip let
me know ...

Additional
Extracurricular Ideas Batted Around at the Last
Meeting
1)
Dirt
Karts - there is a place down around Tillsonburg
called
Chestermans -it's an indoor dirt track. This
would be an ideal event to plan for the winter
months.
2)
Go
Karts - indoor go kart tracks in the GTA are
plentiful and other years we have had a lot of
fun at these and with electric karts the air at
the indoor facilities isn't polluted.
3)
Fun
Rally - the annual DAC fun rally has been a long
standing fixture on the fall DAC club schedule
faithly run and hosted by Uli Bitterlich. This
fall the event will not happen as Uli cannot run
it anymore. Someone needs to carry on this
tradition - who is willing to step up to the
position???
4)
Road
Rally - possibilty of piggybacking on an
existing event (MapleLeaf Rally) with a
contingent of DAC member's cars?
5)
Pub Rally - when I was an
engineering student at Waterloo there was an
engineer's (notorious heavy drinkers) pub rally
held each fall, the route for which passed
through a lot of really old and tiny towns in
the surrounding countryside. At the end of each
rally leg was a pub stop where the navigator had
to drink two of those 1/2 pint glasses of the
local draft beer and then continue onto the next
stage - there were 12 stages. As it was an
engineer's rally the "pace notes" consisted of a
series of algebraic and scientific questions and
puzzles the solutions to which would direct you
through the rally route to the end of each
stage.

International Motor
Racing Research Center at Watkins Glen - Rare
Corvette Offered in Raffle
WATKINS
GLEN, NY – A unique Chevrolet Corvette,
originally owned by A.J. Foyt’s long-time
sponsor and friend, the late Jim Gilmore, is
being offered by raffle by the International
Motor Racing Research Center at Watkins Glen.
The 1984 car is one of only two produced by
Chevrolet. Painted “hugger orange,” the color
used on the Gilmore-Foyt Indy cars, this unique
collector car has fewer than 19,000 miles on the
odometer and is in showroom condition. The car
comes with complete documentation as to its
original ownership, including an original
insurance card, the application for title in
Gilmore’s name, owners manual, service records
and the original window sticker. Among Gilmore’s
many businesses was Abraham Chevrolet located in
Miami. In 1984, he received authorization from
then-general manager of Chevrolet, Robert
Stemple, to have two specially painted Corvettes
produced at the factory. One car went to Foyt,
and the other was for Gilmore. The car is
equipped with virtually every factory option
available at the time, including the Z51
Performance Package, AG9 Six Way Power Drivers
Seat, AU3 Power Door Lock System, L83 5.7 Liter
V8, UJ8 Delco-Bose AM/FM Stereo with Cassette,
V01 Heavy Duty Radiator, Z6A Defogger System
Rear Window and 622 AUU2 Saddle Leather Bucket
Seating. “This unique, eye-catching Corvette
offers our members and friends the opportunity
to win a very rare car while supporting the
Center at the same time,” said IMRRC President
J.C. Argetsinger. “I’m sure it will be a repeat
of last year’s sell out.” The Center’s 2008
raffle car was a Cobra Replicar, with a
completely rebuilt Ford 390cid “big block”
engine. Cars selected for the Center’s annual
raffles reflect the facility’s commitment to the
preservation of the history of motorsports
through collections of books, photographs,
films, documents, personal papers, magazines,
fine art and other materials. Tickets for the
Corvette are $60 each or two for $100, with only
1,984 tickets to be sold. The winning ticket
will be drawn on Saturday, Nov. 14. Tickets can
be ordered on-line at www.racingarchives.org, by
telephone at (607) 535-9044, by mail and at the
Center. Tickets also will be available at the
Center’s tent at Watkins Glen International
during major race weekends. Tickets are tax
deductible to the extent allowed by the IRS. ###

CBC TV Rick Mercer
Report
CBC TV's
'Rick Mercer Report' did a full day's shoot at
the Motorsport Club of Ottawa's www.mco.org
Winter Driving School Track facility on Sunday,
January 11th. The premise was to compare all
season tires to winter tires in the cold ice and
snow driving conditions experienced here in
Canada. Also, various tips on winter driving
skills were explained to Rick throughout the day
by General Lewis McKenzie (Ret) - an MCO member
and Championship Winning Formula 1600 race
driver - and Nigel Mortimer - also an MCO
member, race driver and the Head of Vehicle
Recalls for Transport Canada. The undersigned
also makes an occasional cameo appearance or two
as well! If you haven't seen the 'Rick Mercer

show and the results are expected to be quite
hilarious and entertaining! The show airs on CBC
TV this coming Tuesday, January 20th at 8:00 PM
and repeats on Friday, January 23rd at the same
time. It can also be seen online at
and on their youtube.com/mercerreport channel. I

Greetings
friends I
am a member of a group of people who search out
and keep the history of motorsport. I always
tell people that I’m looking for pictures of the
car I’m restoring. In the last couple of weeks I
have been fortunate to receive these two
pictures. The first, Helmut Teubler, 1961 The
second, Gunther Decker 1962 I am so indebted to
the people who have been able to find and share
these gems. I have sent the one picture to the
family of Günter Decker. I am planning on
gifting the first to Helmut.

CASC Annual General
Meeting Report
by Mike
Nilson
The
nomination committee did come up with a complete
slate for the new executive and well as two
people vying for the top job. They were Scott
Ellsworth of BARC and Joe Trinidad from SPDA-Online.
Both made speeches and at the end of Joe
Trinidad’s speech, he chose to step down from
running for President. No Vote required.
The executive for 2009 will be:
Scott Ellsworth, President
Nick Majors, Vice-president
Greg Adamkowski, Secretary
Candice Calder, Treasurer
Chuck Atkins, Solosprint director
Sharon Feeney, Ice Race Director
Cindy Armstrong, Race Director
Gary Wood, Autoslalom Director
There was much discussion about the state of the
books for CASC. What started as a getting the
books together for this year turned into Candice
re-doing the books completely from 2005 to
today! She has spent hundreds of hours quietly
digging up the financial pieces of CASC and
bringing the books to a state that can be
reasonably be auditing by and external firm. She
is not finished! She does have more to do and
has full support of the executive and everyone
is grateful for the huge effort she has put
forward.

2. 2010 Schedule:
Should we take advantage of the loss of the F1
GP in June, and start the season later due to
lower entries in the first races? The consensus
was no.
3. Confirmed rule changes.
Integration of the Race Ontario Regulations into
the Race Regulations to eliminate duplication
and conflict.
New
appendix to provide standard rules for endurance
style races to provide consistency and to reduce
the size of the supp regs.
Renewal of car number registration - changes not
yet clarified but will guarantee your number if
you used it 3 times the year before. If you
don’t have such a number, you can ask for the
number you want when you pay for your new race
license. If you are running a team with multiple
cars, you can apply to retain the numbers you
are using even if you do not meet these
requirements.
Removal of steering lock device required.
Dry
sump tank mounted in the cockpit must be
shielded from the driver.
4. Proposed rule changes
Review of class breakout times at SMP and CMP.
Allowing 2 drivers to declare themselves a team,
before the start of the season, share the same
car, and share each other’s points. Much
discussion ensued about ‘ringers’ gridding of
the second driver on Sunday and on and on.
Set
criteria for evaluation/observation for race
license: the intent is to facilitate entry for
returnees, Solo Sprint competitors and those
with experience in other arenas such as BMW and
PCA. It is not seen as an entry point from
lapping days, auto slalom or unsanctioned
Karting.
5. Split grids for GT sprint races:
This
means split races not split starts. It will be
done whenever possible, since entries have shown
to increase at events where grids are split. It
was noted that there was better attendance when
split grids were done. It was also noted that
early in the season, split grids may not work as
cars don’t seem to be ready in April - May.
6. Increased eligibility scrutineering
Compliance with applicable rules will be checked
and enforced.
7. Formula Libre:
The
bottom line is that Open Wheel represented 72
total entries last season. Spread this over 9
events and you get an average entry of 8 cars.
At a claimed cost of track time at $70 per
minute FL has been a liability, subsidized by
entrants in other classes. Since open wheel or
FL, whichever way you wish to call it, is not a
Region Championship class, organizers are not
obligated to find FL track time. Formula Four
will no longer be an identified class. This will
no longer be a championship class.
VARAC has proposed allowing pre 1990 open wheel
cars to run with vintage open wheel as members
of that class at up to 4 events. It was proposed
that Open wheel, Vintage open wheel, and F1200
cars all run together. Cindy promised to take
this matter to ORO but would not guarantee that
that particular combination would be available
at every event. She has undertaken to ensure
that there is a place for open wheel cars at
every event.
8. Race observer recruitment:
CASC
needs observers on corners during races to note
incidents and report them. This would be a
factual report, not a finding of blame. Last
year’s effort recruited one new person- more are
needed. Sign up!
9. Other Business:
Endurance races: will not be developed if it
will dilute existing classes.
Unify GT class designations to all numbers or
all letters: It will be done. No decision on
letters or numbers.
Bring back the rookie triangle: undecided
whether it will be for3 events, 6 events, or all
season.
Review GT class breakout penalties.

year the annual DAC awards banquet (also held
the same weekend of Feb. 7th) will be at

Sunday
night, bad weather and traffic kept a few
people from turning out to our race night at
GP Kartways, but none-the-less twelve
people showed up to form two groups of 6
drivers each. Newcomer James McMurtrie from
the National Post was on a steep learning
curve but after some coaching from several
old hands, showed some of us regulars how
well a young aggressive mind can perform. It
is done by going from back of the pack on
the warm up laps to finish 1st. Wait, did I
imply he
cheated? Sorry. The other group was won by
professional midget driver Stefan Haas
who proved that he actually could still turn
right if forced to by squeezing past Scott
Miller on the SACond last lap. We were also
happy to see Superkart racer Sandy MacNie
show us what he could do in the tight
confines of an indoor electric Kart
(track). Sandy's one time mechanic friend
Dan showed up with young Kieran who are both
co-workers of mine. Thanks for coming to

Sue Payne's Father
Passes
by Sue Payne
Many thanks for your kind
words.
Man it takes a hell of a thing to knock me off
my perch but if anyone could have done it, my
Dad would have been the one. Talk about a shock.
I am just numb right now and the tears come and
go. My Dad and I had many good times together
and we (my Mum , Dad and myself) always lived
each day as if it was our last, so we have no
regrets. He has taken part of my heart with him
right now but I am sure that this will mend in
time.

Robert Beaudin In Hospital
by Rick Creuzburg Hi, I have some
good news bad news for those of you that
know Robert...
He suffered a massive heart attack episode
last Friday morning (October 31st). He woke
Maggie up at around 2am to say he wasn't
feeling well, and recognizing his condition
to be dangerous, she immediately called 911
and the ambulance arrived within 4 minutes.
Shortly after arriving at the Collingwood
hospital he went into heart failure and was
resuscitated by the er doctor. His heart was
having a hard time functioning due to an 80%
blockage. They went to transfer him to
Newmarket hospital, but he had another
attack in the ambulance so they had to put
the paddles to him and take him back to
Collingwood. Then they put him on ice and
induced a coma and intubated him to slow his
system down. The cardiologist went along for
the ride this time to Newmarket where he is
now. He was brought out of the coma on
Sunday, and was transferred to a private
room where he is now awaiting heart bi-pass
surgery. He is a little woozy, but his
spirits are up, and he is determined to come
out of this clean. The good news is he was a
very lucky boy the way events unfolded, he
received outstanding care. The word is he
had to be paddled or chest thumped 14 TIMES
to keep him going.
Robert can be reached at South Lake Regional
Health Centre (Newmarket) 905-895-4521
x4557. Feel free to pass the word around,
wife Maggie's been too much on the run to
contact a lot of people.
God's speed Robert... Rick

Motorsport news 2008-10-30 Racing series
BUSINESS Date 2008-10-30 PORSCHE RACING LEGENDS
FOR HIRE From Mike Evans Sport Driving School Offers Ultimate in
Professional Education ATLANTA - October 30 --
The Porsche Sport Driving School-one of the
nation's most prestigious driving schools-is
offering its first fantasy camp for a handful of
qualified participants who will spend a day on
the track with some of the finest race-car
drivers ever to don Porsche driving suits. The
program, called the Porsche Legends Course, runs
December 16 and 17 at the renowned Barber
Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama. This
exclusive opportunity for just 10 people is the
first of its kind and is limited to recent
graduates of the school's Masters Course, who
will be personally coached by many of the greats
in Porsche racing lore. The Porsche driving
legends include Derek Bell, Vic Elford, Hurley
Haywood, Patrick Long and Brian Redman. In
addition to perfecting his or her skills during
a full day of track sessions with these world
class racers as personal coaches, each guest
will have the opportunity to socialize with the
drivers for a closer one-on-one relationship.
"This is without a doubt one of the most
experienced group of racers ever assembled for a
driving course," said Bill Buckley, Porsche's
driving program manager. "Just imagine the

The Nilson Report
Greetings all!
The race season is almost over. Road race
is done, and thank goodness! I have so many
issues around scrutineering. So much that
needs to be improved.
Solo 2 racing is done! Good fun for the
whole family. Margaret did seven events in
our family Subaru automatic station wagon.
Finished 8th overall in E-class
and 9th as a rookie.
Autocross/solo2 is a very competitive event
in Ottawa with some competitors coming from
Toronto for the events. Next year, we will
see! Margaret may go Solo 1 and or rally
cross for the next season or both. Looking
for a good car to play with. Full results
http://www.mco.org/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=8565
Here is picture of Margaret at the end of
the season. Still a smile on her face!
Margaret is now in her third year now at
McGill University doing her business
degree. To keep her hand busy in motorsport,
she has joined the Formula SAE team. The
engineering students are building an open
wheel race car to compete with other
universities. Amazing innovations from
these students. One university built their
own engine from scratch. A 600 cc V8!
Margaret is using her race car knowledge and
her business acumen to move the FSAE team
ahead. A big challenge considering she is
the only woman in a team of 40 year male
engineers.
Rally is almost done too. Mary and I have
our last event November 8: a 4 hour TSD
event north of Perth. Mary and I are first
and second as Novices in this MCO based
series. The prize of a half price entry to
Targa Newfoundland is too good to ignore!
If we get the opportunity, we would like to
do the Targa in a vintage car - perhaps we
can talk Helmut Teubler out of his 1960 DKW
- with some support from Audi Canada? Too
soon to tell.
Mary and I did celebrate the season end with
a trip to Halifax. We took the train
overnight from Montreal. We had a private
room with our own shower. Very nice! We
watched the sun set as we left Montreal. I
woke early, and with Mary, we watched the
sun rise over the Gaspe Bay and Bay du
Chaluers. Very beautiful, and we were the
only ones in the dome car at that time. In
Halifax, we went to Pier 21. This was the
major immigration point in Canada after the
war. My parents came from Bremen in 1951
and landed there on August 4 in Canada. We
saw pictures of the ship they came on and
some passengers documented their memories of
the trip over. Very emotional indeed!
So back home now and considering our winter
activity - CASC banquet? DAC Christmas
party? DAC AGM? Looking forward to seeing
everyone again!

+ October Meeting
The "usual" meeting issues were dealt
with yet again but I believe that we have
indeed turned a corner in that decisions
were made. Oh yeah, of course
there will always be disagreements but I
feel we progressed a long way at this
meeting to coming up with new and viable
solutions to long standing club issues that
will help us move forward and revive the
enthusiasm in this great club.

It’s once again time for this year
Children’s Wish Track day at Mosport on
October 18th. This will be the
16th year since I started this
event and every year amazes me with the way
people come together to donate there time,
cars and money to support the Children’s
Wish Foundation.
We are looking forward to a huge day Rain or
Shine! I would love to here from anyone that
would be able to donate their time to help
with registration, waivers and pit lane. I
could use about 8 to 10 people.
Last year we managed to raise almost $25,000
and this year we are aiming for $35,000.
This would also be a record for us for this
event.

Below are links to the
various race group pictures from
Shannonville. It was a great weekend in spite of the rain
for good racing & picture taking.
Shannonville is a fun track to shoot at
because you can get fairly close to the
action in many areas. I still have a People
N Paddock album to create with trophy
presentations & other shots around the
track.
I need a few able minds and bodies to
help out with registration for the Ted
Powell Weekend.
I need one Deputy-Chief Registrar and
about 5 or 6 Assistants for the
following times:
Friday June 25 - 4-9 pm Sat June 26 - 7-11am Sunday June 27 8-10 am
As last year - Registration wil be held
at Murphy's Landing, which means supper
Friday night, as well as fresh coffee
and real breakfast Saturday and Sunday.
As well - once registration closes - all
workers are free to enjoy the weekend at
the track. You will still get lunch at
the track as well as the regular
volunteer perks.
We are looking for a Judge of Fact
for the Second Annual Ted Powell
Memorial Race in July.
This position requires someone who
has the ability to observe and then
report exactly what was seen and to
describe it accurately and
dispassionately. That could include
overseeing race starts plus other
any other race-related activities as
directed by the Clerk of the Course.
The decisions of the Judge of Fact
are generally taken as being totally
correct, non-protestable and non-appealable
so it is a very key position as
defined in the rules.
For more information, please contact
me at
terrydale@rogers.com or at
613-298-3692.
Terry Dale Clerk of the Course Second Annual Ted Powell Memorial
Race
For the Ted
Powell race weekend July 26-27, I
will be responsible for on-track
services. This includes restoring
tire barriers, picking up stray bits
from cars that have had an “off” and
liaising with the towing service.
Your help is needed to make this
year’s racing even more successful
than last year’s. If you’re prepared
to have a ringside seat for the
action and get your hands dirty a
few times, please volunteer to help
us out. You can e-mail me at
“dpimotorsports at yahoo dot ca” and
tell me your name, phone number and
how many days you can help.
Activities would begin at roughly 7
AM and conclude between 5 and 6 PM,
with refreshments provided by the
club.

Short Report
From Mosport May 24 Weekend
Scott Miller
I
was at Mosport this past Sunday afternoon
along with Mike Evans to watch the "main
events". Nobody was there! I counted 20
people at corner 2! It rained heavily all
afternoon. The biggest ticket were the TDI
VW races and most of them slid off corners
1, 2 and 3 on the first lap because they all
went out on slicks! Elizabeth Sommers
emails: "The
TDI did have rain tires, unfortunately they
were using them on Saturday and the rain
stopped and the track dried up when they
were out. When they came in the tires were
"chewed up" and were useless. So they had
no real option except to go out on the
slicks on Sunday"
Scott Miller
The only other big deal of the weekend were
the two enormous portable buildings that VW erected.
They started building on Monday morning and
finished them Thursday night. The one on the
left in the photo is complete with A/C and
heating, bay doors, hard walls and solid
roof and full floors.

Monthly meeting tonite 8pm sharp.
Hello! I am
a vice president of RallySport Ontario, and
I figured some of your members might enjoy
entering a car rally. It's a fun way to
spend a day with your car and a teammate.
For navigational rallies, all that's needed
is a street-legal car with plates,
ownership, and insurance, and a team of
driver and navigator. Lots of information
about rallying and other events is on the
RallySport Ontario web page,
http://www.rallysport.on.ca Click on
the frame link to "beginner resources" for
information for a first-time rallyist.
All the Ontario Road Rally Cup events have
routebooks for novice teams, and there are
always experts on hand at registration to
give last-minute pointers to beginners.
There are two events coming up in May, and
if you could publish information about them
in your newsletter perhaps some of your members will want to
give it a try! The Blossom Rally on May 10 is being
organized by the Kitchener-Waterloo Rally Club, and the flyer
is online at http://www.kwrc.on.ca/events/blossom/flyer2008.html. The Discover Ontario Car Rally on May 31 is
being organized by the Toronto Autosport
Club, and the flyer is at
http://www.rallysport.on.ca/index.php?fuseaction=site.details&id=336
This coming Wednesday is your monthly
meeting at The Musket Restaurant, 40 Advance
Rd. in Etobicoke - 8PM SHARP! Once again
Andy Boosey will be doing door prize
draws!!! See you there! You got anything you
want to bring and share with your fellow DAC
after the meeting bring it on!

DAC Meeting Jan 3 2007...
Many thanks to David and Mark Swain of the
OMSC who graciously drove down from Port
Perry to give us a DVD presentation of the
2006 Targa Newfoundland. The film is a
collection of in-car footage through the
windshield of the Team Targa C6 Corvette
piloted by Mark Swain and co-driver / car
owner Mike Bell.
David and Mark also answered questions and
provided further insight to this very
unique, and possibly endangered event. David
also brought along two jugs of Mobil 1 oil
as draw prizes.
We also signed up 3 new members,
Andy Boosey, Terry Dalton, and Kyle Jensen

DAC members and friends,
Just a reminder about tonight's
Christmas dinner at the Musket
at 7:00 pm. We have reserved the
elevated section in the
restaurant.
The menu is
as follows: you can have
anything as long as it's
schnitzel. Following the dinner
there will be a short club
meeting to be followed by a
special vintage racing video
presentation - see DAC members
in action!
